Make a splash! Try diving for the first time - it's easy!
Fiji is a perfect place to take that first plunge! The warm, clear waters teaming with an abundant and variable selection of marine life, some big, some small, some in the shallows, some in the deeper depths or hiding in the sand, creates a picture perfect memory for your first scuba dive. A gently slope off the beach, starting off in waist deep water just blowing bubbles is a gentle training environment for the wannabe 'Jacques Cousteaus' of this world. Just about anyone in reasonably good health, and above the age of 12 can sign up for an Introductory Dive so there's very few reasons to keep people away. As long as you can breathe, you can scuba dive! Even if you can't swim, or are not a very strong swimmer it does not matter. The reason it doesn't matter is that you're weightless, in a lifejacket, and we're there to hold your hand for the entire dive.
When you join us in the water there's very rarely a group bigger than two, the maximum we'll ever take is four so please don't feel like you'll ever be neglected. If you're feeling particularly nervous (which is understood, it's your first time breathing underwater!), let us know and you can dig your nails into us as much as you want.
An Introductory Dive takes about an hour and a half of your time. We'll have a special chat with you about what to expect, showing you your equipment and some hand signals (we can't talk underwater). Then its’ into the gear and a short walk across the beach takes you into the crystal clear waters for 30-40 minutes of floating along underwater and enjoying the scenery.
In the water you will be totally weightless which gives you the freedom to glide along next to us, finding ‘Nemo’ (Clownfish) or ‘Gill’ (Moorish Idol), and friends amongst the stunning backdrop of corals. You may even be lucky and see some of our bigger friends - an octopus, a lionfish and maybe even a reef shark!
The money-back guarantee that comes with this dive is a sure persuader if you're still deliberating. Just please don't come out grinning from ear to ear, no pictures left on your underwater camera, trying to tell us you didn't enjoy it, because we just won't believe you…. We are that confident that you are going to love it!
And when you do find that you really enjoyed it, and you want to do more, as long as you've got three days or more you can complete your Open Water Course. You don't even have to stay at the same resort to complete the course. We're based at Barefoot Island in the Yasawas - actually this is Reef Safari's own Island and resort and the opportunity to learn to dive amongst awesome coral reefs is absolutely the opportunity of a lifetime. From Barefoot Island we also provide diving services to guests of Botaira Beach Resort and White Sandy Beach Resort. In the Mamanucas we are based on South Sea Island and Bounty Island Resorts. On the Coral Coast you can learn to dive at the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa, Shangri-La's Fijian Resort and Spa and at the beautiful home of 'The Fire Dancers' Robinson Crusoe Island - not to be missed. Take a trip to the top of Viti Levu and not far from the township of Raki Raki you will find Reef Safari at the amazing Wananavu Beach Resort. If cruising is more your thing, then take a trip onboard Captain Cook Cruises cruise ship MV Reef Endeavour and learn to dive with the Reef Safari dive team while cruising the awesome islands of Fiji - your friends will be jealous.
After three days you will become a Certified Diver. From then on your dives are cheaper, generally longer, and you get to experience a wider variety of dive locations. Six dives (including your first introductory dive), some questions and an exam are all it takes to complete your open water course - so what are you waiting for!
