SSI Open Water Diver
An Open Water Course is the entry level SCUBA diving certification. On successful completion of the course you will be allowed to dive up to recommended depths of 18 meters (60 feet) with other certified divers.
We offer students the choice of location for their open water course. The diving environment and exact schedule of the course various from location to location, so please feel free to compare the locations below.
Airlie Beach, Whitsundays
An SSI Open Water course can be completed in a minimum of three days. At Airlie beach, your three days may comprise of either:
- One day in the classroom/pool at Shingley Beach resort, followed by two day trips to the Great Barrier Reef aboard 'Seaflight' to complete 4 training dives.
- Three individual day-trips to the Great Barrier Reef aboard 'Sealight' to complete 6 training dives.
The above will be subject to dive numbers. All of the open water training dives are from the Knuckle reef pontoon
We start by learning the theory and basic skills, reading the books and completing some simple written task. Either in the pool or at the pontoon, students will be taught a series of underwater skills. These skills will then be demonstrated to their instructor in open water.
Our training methods employ a comfort through repetition approach across all the training dives. By the end of the course you will be comfortable and confident enough to enjoy diving safely without the supervision of an instructor.
Magnetic Island
A four day course to gain a lifetime certification that is accepted and recognised worldwide. Spend two days in our training area next to the beach learning dive theory and mastering pool skills, followed by four open water dives over the next two days.
Following this course, two free dives will be offered to enjoy your new certification.
Fiji
